So Briefly Given

Today we learned that we lost our child through a miscarriage. I wrote this to God in memoriam of them.

You breathe in, yet breathe out this day.
You give life, now you take away.

With great joy, you create with me.
In great pain, you now hear my plea.

In the womb, is where you knit life.
In the tomb, is where you loose strife.

Who am I, that I question this?
So in you, I will still confess.

I trust you, who rose from the grave,
With this one, you so briefly gave.

You breathe in, yet breathe out this day.
You give life, that’s now why I pray.

And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job 1:21 (ESV)

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13–14 (ESV)
